heartphone

Welcome Tinyfolk to heartphone

Hey everyone,
Hope you’re all doing well. The Swedish autumn is pretty much packing its bags and making way for mister winter. And in my eyes the winter months, especially in cold climates like this, are reserved for holing up and being creative. The beach has turned to a skating rink and I have holes in my socks.

So I’m really happy to announce some new heartphone music in the pipe: Bloomington, IN-by-way-of-Chicago Russ Woods will be releasing his next Tinyfolk full length on heartphone this December. The album is entitled Black Bears. Stay tuned for more details.

If the name Tinyfolk already sounds familiar to you, well that’s because there are a lot of releases already floating around the internet and most of them are avail for free download. I would suggest starting at the Tinyfolk CLLCT page and grabbing what you don’t already have.

And of course, you already know that Tinyfolk and I collaborated on a little EP under the name A Football Fields last year. Don’t have it already? Had it but your sister spilled Kool-Aid on your computer and fried it? Go grab it right here.

Open call for compilation submissions

Ok, gonna try out a little experiment here…

At the moment I don’t have any plans for the next hrtph release. It is going to take me a while to get my next full length together. And I haven’t been out looking for any new artists lately. I’d still like to keep new music coming out if I can.

So, the newest idea is to release a compilation. If you have listened to hrtph releases you’ll get the idea of what sorts of musics “fit”. I’m open-minded, but not that open-minded. Get it?

If you think you may have something that would be of interest please send an mp3 to info at mike-downey.com

I’d prefer only exclusive songs as opposed to something already released or slated to be released.

Thanks for reading,

hrtph

The Same Heart
Jason Sposa / Mike Downey
hrtph013 : Split EP
Released: September 9, 2009

All files and art in this .zip file (archive.org)

1. Bullets (Jason Sposa)
2. Directions of You and Me (Jason Sposa)
3. Things Have Gone this Way (Jason Sposa)
4. The Same Heart (Jason Sposa and Mike Downey)
5. Leaf and I (Mike Downey)
6. Owned You (Mike Downey)

The Same Heart’s first murmur occurred when Jason Sposa and Mike Downey began collaborating on this EP’s title track in the summer of 2009. After the song’s completion both dug into their archives and picked previously unreleased songs to fill it out. The outcome is a candid peek into both artists’ somber sides presented in the lower-fi frequencies.

Hey gang,
Thanks for stopping by. A little news on some upcoming releases….

Audio Graves, Vol. 4 will be out within the next week or so. It’ll be nice to have all 4 volumes out, finally. Thanks to all of you who have taken the time to listen thus far.

Also coming soon is a split release with Jason Sposa and me (Mike Downey). Jason gives us 3 low key, lo-fi goodies. I’ve got 2 of my own that I think compliment his nicely and to finish it off we’re debuting our collaborative efforts on a song in which Jason recorded the original music for and I sang over and added a few touches.

Stay tuned,
hrtph

Well by the looks of the download stats, quite a few of you have been getting into Jason Sposa’s Olivia EP. The renewed interest in that recording makes us all really happy.

Jason has been posting previews of new songs he’s working on, as well as some older stuff from time to time. Keep an eye on his site for daily updates : Underneath My Tree

AUDIO GRAVES is a 4 Volume 100-track collection of unreleased songs from my archives. In 2007 I issued a monthly podcast in which the process of digging through stacks of various media began. Some of these songs were included in those podcasts although unmastered and unavailable for download as single tracks.

AUDIO GRAVES is the result of not only many hours of sifting through my archives, but a thorough look at the music I have been making for the past 15 years.

Vol 2. will be ready in about two weeks. Check back!

A quick update
April 17, 2009, 9:40 pm

Hey gang,
I wanted to chime in and give an update since things have been quiet as of late.

There are no solid plans for hrtph for 2009. 2008 was a great year and I released some amazing stuff from friends that I am really proud to have been involved with. When another opportunity to release something just as good comes up I will jump on it. I pretty much wait for the exact right moment and don’t force anything. So we’ll see what happens.

I wanted to mention that Jason Sposa self-released his early recordings over here. If you were a fan of The Olivia EP then you’ll surely appreciate this.

Also, all of you Sukpatch geeks (you too?) will be happy to know that Chris has a new project called Ultra Chorus. It is so fucking catchy and tight. Go check that.

One thing I can confirm for the future is a huge collection of my, Mike Downey, songs. This is going to be a 100-song 4 “disc” set of unreleased stuff I have compiled over the past 12 or so years. I released some of this via my podcast series in 2007. Some of those songs will get a fresh coat of wax and I’ve got a bunch more that have never been heard. Look for that sometime this summer.

Until then,

hrtph / mike
